You Need Skeet Shooting Tips?

Choose any action type besides a pump because when you start shooting doubles, the pump will cause you to loose important seconds with the second shot and that may cause you to miss the bird- by no means I’m saying that you can't shoot skeet with a pump, but for a new shooter, you need either a o/u, side-by-side or a semi-auto.

You need to start mounting your gun the right way. If you don't mount the gun right then you'll miss the bird (once you start shooting more, you'll be able to ‘find’ a "pocket" in your shoulder where the butt of the gun fits really really good- that is what I call the "sweet spot" because, well, like I just said, where the gun fits the best)

The wind also plays a major role in how good you'll shoot too. The wind can make the birds jump so you'll have to pay close attention.

Also, this is a HUGE thing too– figure out which eye is your dominant eye. point with your finger at something small a good bit away and close your left eye while still pointing at what ever you choose, if your finger is not where it was when you were looking with both eyes, then that's not your dominant eye. do the same with both eyes and the eye that your looking out, and the object that your looking at doesn't move, then that's your dominant eye.

if your left eye dominant, then you'll have to look down the barrel with your left eye, its vica-versa for your right eye. (I’m right eye dominant).

Make sure that you keep BOTH eyes open when shooting, you need both to help find the bird and keep your head down on the stock and when looking for the bird look down the barrel so that when you find the bird you won't be behind it.

Do NOT worry about the bead on the end of the shotgun barrel, that will mess ya up if you try to "aim" with that, you just need to have the gun and your eyes go the same way (you'll get better at that the more you shoot, because you learn as you go)

What gauge are you planning on using?
Many people on here will recommend you getting a 12 ga, but if your new at it, I really strongly suggest getting a 20 ga or 16 ga- and no matter what gauge you'll be using, *make sure it has interchangeable choke tubes* .
For my 20 ga, I use a 7/8 oz load, but there are some 'brands' (Winchester, Remington, Federal, etc) that will specify what load it is by having 'trap load' or 'sporting clays' on the box.

I suggest using a 20 or 16 ga because they have a smaller shot pattern and that will help you not rely on having such a large shot pattern, which in return will help you not rely on "Golden BB's" as I call them- it will also help you to where you won't be relying on 'luck' on shooting the skeet.
Another thing that goes with the shotgun is what type of ammo your gonna be using- I prefer using Winchester AA, but experiment with different brands- Remington, Federal, Winchester, etc.. and find out which one shoots the best in your gun- you may have to pattern the gun- to do that you shoot at a sheet of paper about 30' away and do that about 3 times or so that way you can get an idea on what type of pattern your gun is 'throwing'.

*With shotguns you point, you don't aim like you do with a rifle or handgun*

Another thing is when you go to shoot, follow the bird, and your ONLY supposed to move from the waist up and have your belly-button facing the center of where you'll be shooting and keep your feet still- even when you miss a bird- FOLLOW THROUGH!! That will teach you to follow the bird- also, it will help you get used to moving like that. One thing that I do, is before I go and shoot- I get in the right stance, and swing with the gun mounted (but empty) to get my body "warmed-up" to shoot that way- I swing (from the waist up) from one end to the other (end being from one side of the area I’ll be shooting to the other side)

Back to choke tubes- Like I said earlier, make sure that they are interchageable (if I didn't mention that earlier, sorry, I meant to and if I did mention getting interchageable choke tubes earlier sorry for the repeat). You'll need to experiment on which one is better- I have modified cylinder in mine, but full works too, it depends on what shoots best for what load and brand your using- so try each choke tube out to see which one you shoot the most skeet with (on average) and do it a good few times that way you can make sure that it wasn't luck.

And, do NOT worry about not being a good shot.. yet lol. NO ONE started out shooting great- all good shots started the same way and they got to being a good shot the same way- PRACTICE, so, don't get discouraged- the more you practice, the better you'll get! :) And, don't shy away from windy days- that will help you out a LOT [honestly, I shoot better when it's really windy outside, don't know why, but you'll get good soon

Librarians Would Rather You Die Than Shoot Back

Time and time again, we have said that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. When a disturbed young man decided to shoot up the library in Clovis, New Mexico, killing two and wounding four, he only stopped when police arrived. The murderer thankfully did not continue his spree or engage the responding police. Nor did he kill himself. Instead, he meekly surrendered. In fact, most high-profile spree killers either surrender or kill themselves on the arrival of police or application of force.

One wonders what would have happened if an armed citizen was there that day. If the killer knew that someone inside the library might well be armed, would he have gone there? The killer almost certainly targeted the library precisely because it is a location where police are not. It is perceived to be a place of safety, like schools, but instead of acknowledging the threat and planning accordingly, librarians prefer to bury their head in the sand.

So the take-away is not that libraries need more tools to ban guns; rather it is that libraries need to encourage responsibly armed citizens to patronize them and for employees to carry firearms for their own protection. Violence can strike anywhere and encouraging the innocent to remain defenseless only emboldens and encourages psychopathic murderers. Nevada library officials need to understand this point and drop their illogical and emotional opposition to the legal carry of firearms.
